Ridgewood Bow Rehair

About Me

I'm Alice Gerlach, a bow technician based in Ridgewood, Queens, New York City. I rehair bows for violin, viola, cello, and bass, and handle basic repairs including grip replacement, winding replacement, and tip replacement. I also make rosin from locally foraged pine sap.

I've been rehairing and repairing bows since 2025. I studied under Lynn Hannings at the University of New Hampshire.

Alongside my repair work, I'm also a cellist and composer. I've toured around the world as a solo musician, released two critically acclaimed albums, and have had my work featured in several film soundtracks. I've performed and recorded with musicians including Eartheater, Allegra Krieger, Wendy Eisenberg, Claire Rousay, Tomberlin, and More Eaze.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

When you arrive, I'll bring you into the workshop and we'll look over your bow together, talk through any concerns you have, and I'll flag any repairs I notice that might be worth addressing. If you're getting a rehair, let me know then about any special requests, like a new leather grip or winding, a particular kind of hair, or anything else you have in mind. We'll settle on price and turnaround time and schedule your bow pickup.
